Still working on getting new inventory up on both my etsy store and artfire store. Just need to get pictures done. I like taking my pictures using natural sunlight and these cloudy days just do not work. Hopefully soon I will be able to put on this blog that everything is up.

New Beginnings

It has been a long time since I have done anything with my blog. With the start of the new year, I figured it was time to come back to it. New things are happening. I have two online stores now. One is http://lilbitofheavenfibers.etsy.com This is were I have listed for sale anything to do with fiber from the llamas and Shetland sheep. You will find hand spun yarns and roving.

I now have a store at artfire. http://lilbitofheavenfibers.artfire.com. Here you will find all my hand dyed yarns from many different fibers.

Also working on having all my fibers at different fiber festivals through out Virginia. Plus they will be offered for sale up at Meadows of Dan in southwest Virginia, at a store called Greenberry House, run by Leslie S. Allen.

Many new things are happening, so keep checking my stores out and this blog.

More dyed yarns

I have been busy with my dye pots. Have come up with some new bright colors for spring and summer. Some are listed on my etsy store lilbitofheavenfibers.etsy.com and a lot have gone to Greenberry House. So if you are in the area of Meadows of Dan, VA. over the summer stop in, and check all the cool fiber and yarns for sale.

Also working on changing my etsy store and give it a new look with new fiber items. After 4 years I need to add some new things. So over the next few months new items will start showing up. This is not going to be a fast change, it will just happen over the next year.

Dying Yarn

Dyed up some great yarn last week. The one yarn that I really like, started out as a mistake. I had sprinkled some dye on the yarn, added the water and let it boil slowly. The colors did not work, so I then overdyed all the skeins. The yarn came out a great color, looks like antique bronze. So that became it's name. It all went to Greenberry House and is now on the shelf's.

This week I worked on dying up some BFL yarn in shades of blue and purple. That came out great. Now I need to get pictures and put it up on my etsy store ( http://lilbitofheavenfibers.etsy.com). I like to use natural light in taking pictures of all my yarns. But this weekend is a rainy one, no sun. So will have to wait a few days.

Spring

Need to catch up on this blog. I have been terrible about keeping up on what I am doing. Since it is spring and everything is blooming, time to get this blog updated.

This week I am working on dying up a batch of BFL roving. Not sure of the colors yet. That decision I do not decide about until I am ready to put in the dye. If all goes well they will be up on my ets store http://lilbitofheavenfibers.etsy.com by next week.

Also working on some new handspun yarns, that I dyed. Most of those yarns will be headed to Leslie at Greenberry House in Meadows of Dan, VA. Things are gearing up ago at her lys store, so time to get new inventory in.

I have been very busy getting hats and scarfs done and put up on my etsy store, http://lilbitofheavenfibers.etsy.com. I wanted to get them all up and listed before Christmas. So buyers would have a great way to find give something special for the holidays. A lot of the hats and scarfs are made with handpsun, handdyed yarns that I have made. So that way buyers would purchase a one of a kind gift. I am still busy working on more fibers to get up on my store. Always busy working on something in my studio. Winter is a great time to spin, as the cold keeps me inside a lot. Plus I am busy knitting something up. Right now it is Christmas presents for my family and grandkids. Notice the pictures of the afghans. Something else I am also working on. Have gotten 2 done, but not up on the store yet. Just another project to get done.

I have gotten behind in posting to my blog. This blog is a place where I wanted to record my path through the fiber world. But my other life sort of got into the way. I have been spinning a lot. Trying to spend at least 2 hours a day at the wheel. My shetland wool has been my choice to spin. Having 16 sheep means I have a lot of shetland wool. It seems to be multiplying. The more I spin, the more I seem to have. It is nice though to walk out to my storage area and have a choice of what I would like to work with.
My dye pots have also been busy. I have worked on dying up some superwash merino, Falkland wool and some Blue Face Leicester yarn. First time I have worked with the Falkland and BFL. Those yarns took the dyes nicely and will knit up into some great socks, hats or scarves. I have also been dying the shetland yarn as I finish them. With dying the shetland I have been playing with different ways to dye the finished yarn up. I really like dying the yarn, then the roving. The shetland I am working on getting some nice over dyed yarns. I am pleased with the process.

Fall Is Here

Fall is here. The leaves are turning colors, falling off the trees. The birds are at the feeders a lot more these days. I love seeing my woodpeckers at the feeders. Trying to figure out how I can dye up a yarn that has black, red, gray and white in it. To make the yarn look like the colors of the woodpeckers.

Cooler weather also means that Christmas will be here before you know it. I tried to knit up something for everyone in my family. Last year it was afghans and socks. Maybe for this year I will knit up some gloves, finally learned how to knit them. Socks always work and can be made pretty fast if the pattern is easy. Hand dyed sock yarn made into a pair of special socks make's
makes for a great gift and they last.

Time At My Spinning Wheel

I have been spending more time at my spinning wheel. With Fall coming I feel the need to create yarn. The nice part about it all, to find my roving to spin I just step out into my garage. There I have shelves filled with shetland roving, llama roving and rovings that I have picked up along the way. Sort of like stepping into the "fiber candy shop". One of the best things I enjoy is taking that spun wool and then decideding what color to dye it. I have been spinning a lot of my shetland wool. Some of my sheep have very light wool, almost white but more like a cream. This wool is a joy to spin and takes any kind of dye. When I am done spinning, up on my etsy store it goes. Ready to find that one person who will knit it up into something wonderful.

Socks, Socks, and more socks

I have been knitting socks this summer. Socks are a great project to knit on in the summer. You can use any kind of wool and not have to worry about be covered in the hot weather. They can go anywhere, you can knit at the beach or the pool. The whole project can fit into a small bag. Socks are great to take along on a long road trip. You will get looks from strangers, but then again you might make a new friend.

Of course you have to knit with a yarn that is bright and eye catching. One that when you are done knitting and put that pair of socks on they stand out! What can be better than to have color on your feet. So get out those needles and make a pair of bright, beautiful, comfy socks to wear this fall.

My birthday is this coming Saturday, August 1. I have been working my etsy store since Feb., 2006, part time. That was all the time I could give it. My birthday is Saturday and it is time to make changes. I have retired from working my farm, I still have all my beloved llamas and shetlands, but now another family member lives on the farm and takes care of them. I moved into a new house and finally have things the way I want them. Now is the time to add another title to my list, wife, mother, grandmother, friend and now Fiber Artist.

My birthday is this Saturday and I am going to start a new phase in my life. Could not have picked a better job, with great people and new friends.
